Bonton Farms

When Bonton Farms reached out to CDS, their vision for bringing fresh, nutritious food into an urban food desert was only at its beginning stages.  Bonton Farms had been given a number of adjacent, vacant residential lots by the City of Dallas to use to build their dream of an urban farm.  But how do you turn residential lots into a farm when you’re in the middle of Dallas city limits?  That’s why Bonton Farms reached out to CDS.  CDS worked with Bonton Farms to clear existing liens on each of the properties, replat the individual lots into a single lot, and complete engineering plan sets, which ultimately ended in the creation of the first urban farm planned development zoning designation in Dallas!  Along with the Emerging Leader Program of the Dallas AIA Chapter, CDS was involved in creating the architectural plan set for the Bonton Farm Market.  It’s a beautiful building that bustles with activity during the breakfast and lunch crowds.  As Bonton Farms has grown, they’ve continued to reach out to CDS with their professional design needs, including  such projects as zoning changes on a new Welcome Center and replatting and utility access for the Bonton Farms Extension Site.  Community Design Services is proud to serve Bonton Farms!

Paul Quinn College

After the university’s football team disbanded, Paul Quinn College took the bold step to “plow under” their football field and turn it into an urban garden.  Since then, the garden has supplied thousands of pounds of fresh food in a federally-recognized food desert, but Paul Quinn College has even larger goals.  Paul Quinn College’s We Over Me Farm recently reached out to Community Design Services for help with some initial conceptual design work for a coming update to their urban farm.  CDS created digital renderings and a prototype layout for how they can achieve their vision.  Conceptual design, like what was done on this project, is a valuable first step in proving the feasibility of a proposed project, gathering initial community feedback, and improving organization’s ability to raise funds for construction.
